Students must be able to show competency in many areas of social work. For this paper, students will show competency in the fourth competency, Engage in Practice-informed Research and Research-informed Practice. There are two behaviors in this competency including:

Competency 4: Engage in Practice-Informed Research and Research-Informed Practice

Apply research findings to inform and improve practice, policy, and programs; and
Identify ethical, culturally informed, anti-racist, and anti-oppressive strategies that address inherent biases for use in quantitative and qualitative research methods to advance the purposes of social work.

Use headings to note each behavior, such as "Apply Research Findings to Inform and Improve Practice, Policy, and Programs" for the first behavior, "Identifying Ethical, Culturally Informed, Anti-Racist, and Anti-Oppressive Strategies" for the second behavior. Each part of the behavior is to be addressed in this paper, i.e. in the second behavior, be sure to address the concept to research findings in both qualitative and quantitative research. Another place to be sure to address parts of the behavior for example, is to discuss informing AND improving practice, policy, AND service delivery. Use examples of the concepts you are discussing.

Note: This paper provides information for the accreditation process. It is very important for every student to read the rubric and address each portion of the paper. The rubric is very explicit concerning the requirements and expectations of the paper. You must earn at least a 3 in each category to show you understand the social work competency of engaging in diversity and difference in practice.
