Defects in nuclear missile housing parts. The technique of multivariable testing (MVT) was discussed in the Journal of the Reliability Analysis Center (First Quarter, 2004). MVT was shown to improve the quality of carbon-foam rings used in nuclear missile housings. The rings are produced via a casting process that involves mixing ingredients, oven curing, and carving the finished part. One type of defect analyzed was number y of black streaks in the manufactured ring. Two variables found to impact the number of defects were turntable speed (revolutions per minute), x1, and cutting blade position (inches from center), x2
(a) The researchers discovered ‘‘an interaction between blade position and turntable speed.'' Hypothesize a regression model for E(y) that incorporates this interaction.
(b) Practically interpret what it means to say that ‘‘blade position and turntable speed interact.''
(c) The researchers reported a positive linear relationship between number of defects (y) and turntable speed (x1), but found that the slope of the relationship was much steeper for lower values of cutting blade position (x2). What does this imply about the interaction term in the model, part a? Explain.
Consider the instrumentation amplifier of Fig. 2.20(b) with a common-mode input voltage of +3 V (dc) and a differential input signal of 100-mV peak sine wave. Let 2R1 = 2 kΩ, R2 = 50 k Ω, R3 = R4 = 10 kΩ. Find the voltage at every node in the circ..

What is the probability that the lightbulb I am now putting in will last at least 65 hours?- What is the standard deviation of the lifetime of a lightbulb?
Imagine a study where the correlation between some amount of an experimental drug and liver damage yields a value for r close to zero and the hypothesis H0: ρ = 0 is not rejected. Why might it be unreasonable to conclude that the two variables und..
For a normal random variable with mean 16.5 and standard deviation 0.8, find a point of the distribution such that there is a 0.85 probability that the value of the random variable will be above it.

A researcher hypothesizes that people who listen to classical music have higher concentration skills than those in the general population. On a standard concentration test, the overall mean is 15.5. The researcher gave this same test to a random samp..
