1.Researchers are studying hypertension in men. To develop a basic understanding, researchers randomly sample 1000 men aged 35 and older and collect medical information. researchers are particularly interested in the relationship between two variables: age group and hypertension status. The table below summarizes the info collected:

No Hypertension:

35-44 yr. olds: 195

45-54 yr olds: 153

55-64 yr olds: 455

65 yr and older: 45

Hypertension:

35-44 yr. olds: 50

45-54 yr olds: 88

55-64 yr olds: 117

65 and older: 232

35-44 yr olds total: 245

45-54 yr olds: 241

55-64 yr olds: 237

65 and older: 277

full total: 1000 men

a) What type of variable is age group?

b) P(hypertension/35-44) = 50/487 = 0.1027)

What mistake is in this probability?

c) What is the actual probability of a man in the 35-54 group having hypertension? (round ANSWER to 4 decimals)

d) Based on the information in the table, do you feel the hypertension status and age group are dependent or independent? Explain your ANSWER.
