The Ksp  of  Fe(OH)3  is  2.8  x  10-­-39,  and  the  Ksp  of Sr(OH)2  is  3.2 x 10-­4.

a)  Can  Fe3+  be  separated  from  Sr2+  by  the  addition of  an  NaOH  solution  to  an  acidic  solution that   contains  0.450  M  Sr2+  and  0.070  M Fe3+? Assume  that  the  initial  concentration  of  OH-­-  is  zero  for   these  calculations. 

b)  At  what  hydroxide  ion  concentration  will  the  second  cation  precipitate? (i.e.  the  cation  of  the  more soluble  salt.) This  was  calculated in  part  (a). 

c)  What  is the  concentration  of the less soluble cation at the  hydroxide ion concentrationin (b)?
