Problem: A 55-year-old postmenopausal female presented with abnormal bleeding on combined continuous hormone replacement therapy. An endometrial biopsy was attempted but yielded inadequate tissue for diagnosis. An endovaginal ultrasound revealed an endometrial thickness of greater than 1 cm with the suggestion of an intrauterine filling defect. Under adequate anesthesia, a pelvic examination is performed which documents a normal-sized anteflexed uterus. The cervix is dilated and the diagnostic hysteroscope is introduced into the endometrial cavity. An irregular polypoid mass is identified. The cervix is further dilated to admit the resectoscope and the entire lesion is resected. The cavity is then scraped with a sharp curette. There is one CPT code.
