PITS methodology helping support the change process by providing tools to analyze waste. These tools help Jaguar understand how much waste they have in their processes which allows them to do a gap analysis to evaluate the opportunity (Taylor, 1999). Use of PITS tools to reduce the waste after the opportunity has been evaluated which is clearly an important part of the process. The process is really fairly simple but requires some practice developing and evaluating a value stream map. One facet that some companies struggle with is the importance of mapping out the entire process as opposed to evaluate a process in isolation. It is important to understand how the process interacts with each other and where the dependencies are in the entire process. What can appear to be waste in one process could potentially be important to a downstream process. After performing a value stream map and identifying waste in the process, how would you go about prioritizing the reduction of the identified waste?
