TIFF DQ 1

Professor and Class,
One goal I will need to reach that will attribute to my success in the field of Psychology will be to become a Juvenile Counselor. The reason I chose this field is because I want to take part in rehabilitating young, troubled teens. I have had the pleasure of working directly with this population, and through my experiences, I discovered my potential to serve as a tool in this field. My previous employer, American YouthWorks, is a charter school that targets children at risk for drop out. The time I served here enabled me to gain insight on some of the struggles our younger population is subjected to, which empowered me to make a difference. In little to no time, I was serving as a resource by offering services and supports for young parents, addicts, and the homeless. It was then, that I realized that this would become part of my destiny.

Primarily, in order to achieve my goal in becoming a Juvenile Counselor, it is recommended to complete a Bachelor's program in Criminal Justice. Secondly, I will need to dedicate several hours of volunteer work at a juvenile corrections facility to receive experience in this field. Finally, I will need to complete The National Counselor Examination, administered by the NBCC, and the Texas Jurisprudence Examination to obtain licensure as a counselor in the state of Texas (Careersinpsychology.org, 2016).

I will know that I have achieved this goal once I am officially accepted for a position as Juvenile Counselor. Furthermore, I will continue to eliminate the distracting factors of life as a means of remaining focused in the actions I have identified. I will need to maintain my steady job, possibly a promotion, and family support as resource's in my journey towards succeeding in my goal.

Rhon DQ 2:

One of my first goals is to complete my education requirements necessary to becoming a licensed therapist. My plan of action included finding a program that best fit my needs in regards to being a mother, an employee and all other activities outside of school. Balance is going to be key in regards to completing my program successfully and not allowing any part of my life to become subject to neglect. Due to this reality, it is important that I create and maintain a schedule that complements my daily responsibilities. I stay motivated and committed to this goal and plan of action by reminding myself of my "why", the reason why I began this program and must successfully complete it.

There is an entire population that will need and benefit from the type of services I will offer, the author of the text "Career Paths in Psychology (Sternberg, 2007)" states that one of the reasons individuals choose the particular career in psychology that I am interested in is due to "wanting to help others (Sternberg, 2007)." My primary motivation is empowering those in my family that believe it's too late for them to accomplish their dreams and make a difference in the lives of others. The resources necessary for me to complete my goals will be support from my family and circle of friends, a quiet space to work on my assignments, financial resources to pay for school and access some form of self-care on a regular basis to make sure I don't experience burn-out.
