Jerry, an architect, and Thomasina, a senior systems analyst for a major corporation, have combined incomes that put them in the upper 3 percent of all family units in the United States. They have a condominium in New York City, a second home in the Pocono Mountains, and spend two weeks in the Carib- bean every winter. They are on the upward slope, and things can only get better. In three years, they plan to have one male child to carry on the family name. If the conceptus is female, they intend to abort it. Thomasina gets pregnant three years ahead of schedule. They decide to abort, since taking a leave would block her from promotion to a position that will open up in six months. They come to you for help with the abortion.
