1. Discussion 1: Restructuring

If an organization determines that it needs restructuring, it should result in more advantages than disadvantages. However, any change will have its own limitations that will need to be addressed. The case study of Beth Israel Hospital's restructuring will illustrate the strengths and limitations of a structural change; it is the subject of this week's Discussion.

Review this week's resources, including the "Beth Israel Hospital" case study in the text, Reframing Organizations.

Post by Day 3 your analysis of the Beth Israel Hospital case study of their restructuring. Explain how contingency theory, differentiation, or integration occurred in the change. Explain two strengths and one limitation that may occur in this restructuring and provide a recommendation to address the limitation.

2. Discussion 2: Organic Networking

Typically, a machine metaphor is thought of as more rigid and inflexible, but for some organizations this is desirable. The organic metaphor is thought of as more flexible and adaptable to threats from a turbulent environment. For this Discussion, you explore how turbulence increases the need for organic networking.

Review this week's resources. Select an organization and consider how turbulence can impact the organization.

Reflect on the following statement: The world and business environment are constantly changing.

Post by Day 4 an explanation of turbulence in the context of organizations and how it increases the need for organic networking. Then, explain what drives this need. Finally, using the organization you selected, explain the actions the organization might take to address turbulence. If the organization has not considered this need, explain what you think the organization should be doing
