A 60-Hz source supplies power to an industrial load through a transmission line of impedance (0.2+ j0.1) ohms. The load consumes 130 kW of power at line voltage VL= 440<10° V rms VL and power factor 0.78 lagging.

(a) Propose a power factor correction scheme for improving the power factor at the load.

(b) Implement the power factor correction scheme in part (a) so that the new power factor at the load is raised to 0.9 lagging.
