Assignment:
Based on this case study, answer the following questions;
So the second thing that I would like to talk with you about is the purpose of the group. What are we going to do here? Why are we meeting?
And so before I spell out what the purpose of the group is, I just want to do a little introduction about what the purpose might be. So you know when having a child, as you probably already know, is a major life transition that has both exciting parts to it and challenges. And parenting can bring up a lot of thoughts and feelings that might remind you of your own childhood experiences, both positive and negative.
So although babies have a lot of things in common, each child is different. And each family is unique. So it's important to be able to have a safe place or a safe space, which I'm hoping we can have this group become a safe place, for you to be able to talk about your experiences in this transition.
The purpose of the group, then, flows from that, which means we're going to try to establish a safe place for all of you to be able to talk about and explore your experiences of motherhood and also to get some information and resources that could help you along the way. So those are the purposes of our group-- for you to be able to get information, to get resources, and to be able to come and share with the group some of the issues and challenges that you have and be able to get some help.
QUESTION
1. What are your thoughts about how the social worker defined the group purpose?
2. Would you have said something different, or used different words? Why or why not?
