Assignment: Representation & Analysis of Quantitative Data
We are approximately halfway through the course and about to pivot to inferential statistics and hypothesis testing. Before we move into inferential statistics, let's spend some time looking for data in our own contexts. Note that this assignment can count as your field experience for this course, so take notes and document your process in a way that will make it straightforward to write about in the program outcome requirements for this course.
Complete the following steps as part of the Data in Practice activity:
Research to find quantitative data related to your school or school district (or both)
1. This is broadly construed - this might be student test scores that the school collects, or attendance rates, or percentile ranking compared to other schools. Get the instant assignment help.
2. Once you have found your first source of quantitative data, take a deep dive and see if there are other quantitative data sources related to your school or school district (or both)
3. Find out all you can about how the data is collected and analyzed. Find out if any of the data is published for the public to see. Find out if there is data that is accessible to anyone to use or whether it is housed in a certain area inaccessible to the public.
4. With the information you gather, compare what you see with what you have learned so far in the course. Do you see anything of interest? For example, if you find a report that shows a mean score of some kind, does it describe how that mean was calculated? Is there anything you would do differently if you were working with the data?
