GROCERY STORE ASSIGNMENT - Visit an ethnic grocery store and research how the foods found at the grocery are a staple for their cultural diet.
Consider the history of the country: famine, coastal region, destruction, wars, and country economics.
Explain how the cultural group may utilize the food pyramid in meal planning.
Discuss your findings based on the RESEARCH YOU HAVE DONE PRIOR to visiting the grocery; be sure to share what you learned at the grocery that agreed (or disagreed) with your findings.
Grading will be based on the level of detail you provide in your submission to the following:
Did you visit a grocery store and document the name and location? You will not receive maximum points if you visit the international food aisle of a traditional grocery store. You are instructed to visit an ethnic food store.
What culture did you select? How detailed was your discussion?
Did you describe and discuss the history of the country including areas (but not limited to): famine, coastal region, destruction, wars, and country economics? How detailed was your discussion?
How does the cultural group use the food pyramid in meal planning? How is diet viewed? What are common foods? How detailed was your discussion?
What did you learn when you visited the grocery store that supported (or refuted) your research on the culture that you selected? How detailed was your discussion?
Did you provide a reference page? Were the number of references adequate for the topic discussed? I am not putting a minimum or maximum on references, as it will vary by the amount of research you have put into the assignment. Were they appropriately documented in APA format?
Were there any typographical or grammatical errors? Formatting issues (e.g., 16 pt font, 3" margins, Comic Sans font, etc.)?
Include 2-3 pages of content (not including your reference page) for all resources used to support your findings. All assignments in this class should use APA format for citations, unless otherwise noted.
To receive maximum credit, the assignment is to be turned in via hard copy at the beginning of class on the due date; you may also upload to eCampus as a backup.
