Staffing shortages of Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) can shift the supply curve leftward, reducing the number of care hours available and creating longer client waitlists. At the same time, the "price" of services rises, as higher wages, incentives, or overtime are needed to attract and retain staff.

Similarly, changes in funding and program resources impact both supply and demand. Increases in state funding, grants, or Medicaid support can shift demand rightward, as more families seek services, while also expanding supply through additional programs, therapy sessions, or adaptive equipment. Funding cuts have the opposite effect, limiting access and program offerings. Overall, shifts in staffing and funding illustrate how supply and demand directly influence service availability, cost, and organizational planning in human services.
