In The Public Policy of Crime and Criminal Justice, Marion and Oliver (2012) present a wide variety of juvenile justice policy issues. Over the last 50 years, the juvenile justice system has evolved to deal with the special issues revolving around issues with juveniles. When preparing your initial post, consider the following questions:

1. What should be done about serious juvenile offenders?

2. How should we address issues with violent gangs?

3. Should we allow juveniles to be transferred to the adult court, and if so, under what circumstances?

4. Should we allow the federal and state governments to execute juvenile offenders?

Initial Post: Select a juvenile justice policy issue, and evaluate it based on one of the theories found in Box 13.1, Theories of Juvenile

Delinquency, in Chapter 13 of The Public Policy of Crime and Criminal Justice. Determine how the theory shaped the juvenile justice policy. Support your claims with examples from the required materials and/or other scholarly sources, and properly cite your references with both in-text and APA citation at the end of your post.

Guided Response: Review your peers' posts, and substantively respond to at least two of your peers. In your evaluation of your classmates' posts, do you agree or disagree with your classmate? Address whether social justice concerns trump criminal justice concerns when it comes to dealing with and treating juveniles. Respond to at least one Instructor Response in the discussion. Support your position with scholarly references.
