We have learned about homeostasis and how multiple organ systems can be affected by its disruption.
In this unit, we have learned about epithelial cells in the skin, major bone cells, calcium homeostasis, bone remodeling, and the integration of immune cells and other organ systems. Using what we’ve learned, you will write a 3-5 page essay about a select disease or disorder affecting the Integumentary or Skeletal System.
1. In your essay, be start with a simple introduction of your disease or disorder. For example, how is it affecting our population or any current events.
2. Be sure to discuss the normal function of the cells and tissues affected by your disorder. How do they work in a healthy individual? What is the normal homeostasis or physiology of that system?(25 pts)
3. Then discuss how the disease or disorder disrupts the normal physiology; are hormone imbalances or nutrition a cause? Are other organ systems involved? Autoimmunity? etc(25 pts)
4. Finally discuss how it can be treated; what type of patient teaching should be considered?Discuss both pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments. Explain how at least 1 drug example affects the physiology discussed earlier.(25 pts)
5. Be sure to cite your sources on a separate page at the end of your essay and write your essay in your own words; at least 3 quality references should be used. Make sure you follow the format guidelines and upload your saved document into the assignment in blackboard -> assignments tab.(25 pts)
