Hello. We are given an unknown substance in powder form. We are do dissolve half of this substance into water, then use half of that dissolved substance in water for emission spectroscopy, and use remaining half for qualitative chemical test(add 0.1M of copper nitrate to a unknown substance to see if it precipitates) Emission test for the cation and the qualitative test for the anion both require solutions that are between 0.1 M and 0.001 M to produce reliable results. Since the sample is an unknown solid, I will have to make a solution without knowing exactly what to mix. In your expertise, how much of the solid do you expect to dissolve in what volume of water and what is your reasons for choosing these amounts?
Steam distillation may be used to separate a mixture of p-nitrophenol and o-nitrophenol.
What mass of CCl2F2 must evaporate in order to freeze 115 g of water initially at 21 C? (The heat of fusion of water is 334 J/g the specific heat of water is 4.18 J/g *K .)
A solution is made by dissolving 3.14g of NaCl in 79.9mL of water. What is the concentration of sodium chloride in units of weight/volume percent?
Isobutane is the fuel used in disposable lighters. The lighters' operation is dependent upon the butane's ability to vaporize and be ignited, and this depends somewhat upon the large pressure difference between the inside of the lighter
When heated, lithium reacts with nitrogen to form lithium nitride: 6Li(s) +N2(g) → 2Li3N(s)
A solution is prepared by mixing 66.7 g H2O with 33.3 g HOCH2CH2OH (ethylene glycol). What is the concentration of ethylene glycol in units of molality? The molar masses of water and ethylene glycol are 18.02 g/mol and 62.07 g/mol, respectively
