Question: In 1801, Lord Elgin began taking sculptures from the Parthenon ruins to his home in England. He later sold the sculptures, known as the Elgin Marbles, to the British Museum where they remain. The Greek government wants the Elgin Marbles back. Compare the levels of influence, monetary power, and access to legal representation that Greece has versus that of England. How might modern technology play a part in producing new solutions? Could technology be used to share visual information between museums and patrons? Could it be shared between scholars on a fee basis? Ok, so for this discussion instead of deciding if the Elgin Marbles should be returned or not, (1) use one of your researched submissions to discuss the possible legal battles that could happen between these two countries. (2) then, use a completely separate researched submission to explore how technology could be used in a case of two museums sharing art works or how scholarly study of these works could be used in the technology era.
