Question: Proteins within most living organisms are comprised of 20 amino acids encoded for by the nearly universal genetic code found within nature. Answer the following questions regarding the genetic code.

Codons are made of 3-letters. Given this how many codons are found within the genetic code?

How many of the codons encode an amino acid? Is it different than the total number of codons, if so why?

If the number of codons were equal to the number of amino acids found within proteins (meaning the genetic code wasn't degenerate) how might this negatively impact the organism and its offspring?
