Over the past few weeks, a few of you mentioned how inundated social media has been by political messaging. I'm not talking about "fake news," but encouragement to vote from all sides. Some of these are actually advertisements, but others are posts by celebrities or notable figures, or even companies--a lot of my favorite companies I follow on Instagram were posting photos (sometimes--ha, with their product in it) telling people to get out and vote.
For this post, find an artifact from this election persuading people towards a particular side, or simply to vote. You can use actual content from the candidates, but don't discount posts from social media, and conversations you've had in class or with family/friends. This artifact can be a quote, something visual, a video, an action, etc.
Once selected, use the rhetorical terminology you applied to the ad from last week, and analysand this piece of election-season rhetoric! Make sure to especially focus on the audience--politics is rarely bi-partisan, and they're usually speaking to a particular group WITHIN the Left or the Right. What kind of person are they trying to reach? How do you know?
( rhetorical terminology that applied to the ad before are: Ethos, Pathos, and Logos)
- make it the Democratic party.
