A dam located in a channel of rectangular cross-section which carries water flowing at a rate of 8.75m3/s. The depth of water upstream of the dam is 2.5m. the channel is 5m wide, and is lined with concrete (manning's n=0.015). the sloe of the channel is 1 in 5000 and the uniform depth for this flow rate is 1.8m.

a) determine the critical depth in the channel.

b) sketch the backwater curves for the channel.

c) how far upstream is the depth within 100mm of the uniform depth.
