Assignment: Business- Interviewing as a Process of Selection Essay
Prompt:
Lately, there are different opinions on whether organizations should be interviewing candidates. Interviewing is the traditional method of candidate selection and has been done for a very long time. But is it the best method? Some don't think so. So, in this assignment, I would like your opinion on this controversy. Specifically, I would like you to write an opinion piece on the interview debate that's backed up by sources. Imagine that this is an article being read by HR managers at various organizations who are trying to decide if they should continue interviewing candidates or if they should rely on alternative screening methods.
Because this assignment is article-style, please treat it like an essay, with a brief introduction, transitions, etc. Look closely at the writing rubric and make sure that the article is organized well and the writing is error-free. A couple of specific writing tips: make sure if you present a point to be specific about why you think that it true. So, if you say "It is important to assess interviews" explain that point by adding to it. Something like: "It is important to assess interviews because it helps reduce biases in the interview process and ensures each candidate is being assessed in the same way which makes the process more fair."
To help you in this endeavor, here is a detailed description of what you should do to succeed on this assignment. I suggest you use the bullet points below as an outline for the article, plus a brief introduction and conclusion:
Disadvantages of Interviewing
1) Provide three disadvantages to interviewing using what you learned in class and/or outside sources.
2) Provide at least one example of your own creation for how exactly each disadvantage may play out in a real organization and how it could hurt the organization.
Advantages of Interviewing

Reasons For or Against Interviewing
1) State your own preference. Something like "I support the use of interviews in the selection process for three reasons." Or "I do not think organizations should use interviews for the following three reasons: reason 1, reason 3, and reason 4."
2) Logic and argument for reason 1
a) State your first reason for or against interviewing and why that is a valid reason. Hint: when thinking about why it is a valid reason, think about how the organization might benefit (or prevent harm) because of that reason
3) Logic and argument for reason 2
a) State your second reason for or against interviewing and why that is a valid reason.
4) Logic and argument for reason 3
a) State your third reason for or against interviewing and why that is a valid reason.
Using Sources to Support the Three Reasons.
1) Source 1: properly cites and utilizes a reputable source
2) Source 2: properly cites and utilizes a reputable source
3) Source 3: properly cites and utilizes a reputable source
The argument for "to interview or not" doesn't have to be black and white, you could make a "it depends" point. Just make sure whatever argument you make is clear, compelling, and supported.
