To make my action plan for improving culutrally tailored heath services for the Hispanic community in San Antonio become a reality, awareness is crucial for promoting change. Often, people are unaware of social issues because it doesn't directly affect them. My experience working as a nurse has significantly shaped my understanding and awareness of heath disparities. I have witnessed firsthand the health inequities that affect underserved communities.
As a 24-year-old, I do not believe that my generation doesn't care, rather they are simply very disconnected. I think utilizing social media and online platforms to share experiences and updates will be a great way to spread awareness. Spreading awareness via social medial platforms we use daily will be the best way to ignite this plan into reality. Fostering empathy and awareness is essential for creating an understanding of the social issue and will encourage others to promote social change.
This course has been one of the most fulfilling classes I have taken. Over the past these eight weeks, I have gained a deeper appreciation and understanding of interdisciplinary studies. It has expanded my perspectives on addressing complex social issues. While I was aware of my strong critical thinking skills before, this class challenged them. I learned that there is not simply one solution to a social problem but rather endless approaches that can be taken. Going forward, this class has equipped me with an interdisciplinary approach to problem solving, which will be valuable in my career.
