This homework uses the "data" that you collected in Modules 2 and 3 to help you to better understand how key environmental factors, like social interaction, internet use, and personal relationships influence the development and experience of psychological disorders. We have learned that "dysfunction" means that someone is unable to carry out daily life activities without great difficulty or at all. How someone disconnects from others, self, and the environment has a lot to do with the type of disorder that is present. Too, when we realize that there is an interaction between the environment and genetics, it makes it easier to understand how someone struggles, how disorders develop, and hopefully, how they can be prevented.

Using the two sets of data that you have collected from the past two application exercises, complete this paper homework. Write an essay that addresses the questions below. Do not write the questions, instead, be sure that you have an introduction and conclusion.

A. How does use of the internet/smart phones/devices create a false sense of connection between the user and the images online?

B. Is there a correlation between longer use of internet/devices and increased anxiety or mood changes? If so, why does this happen? If not, why not- what protective factors might keep people from having mood changes?

C. Reflect on your own experiences from the first exercise. Did you notice something in your experience that surprised you?

D. Reflect on your interview (or own responses, if you were the interviewee- do not tell me though) from the second exercise. Why do you think that some people experience mood shifts when first using the internet or directly after using it?

E. Do you think that increased use of the internet/devices during non-working hours contributes to the increased rates of anxiety and depressive disorders (increase from children-adults)? Use the research that you found/summarized to support your ideas.
