How does this post correlate with the story "American Arithmetic" by Natalie Diaz: In 1877, the Jim Crow Era was established; according to, "How We Got Here-"The Veil", "This was time when public institutions actively established racial segregation". This falls right under the umbrella of racism, systemic racism to be exact. The separation of black people and white people was the grounds for racism during that time, blacks were subjected to lower quality public places, including public schools, they were systematically denied opportunities, and were lynched, or burned alive if they violated what was considered "Jim Crow Etiquette", which was often included them being accused of rape and murder, followed by punishment.
