Select a specific industry (not a product) which you are interested in studying. Examples of industries include fast food, automotive, soda, beer, etc. I have provided a sample in the case study folder to help you understand what to include in your analysis. You can also look at the submissions and feedback in DQ4 for ideas.

For each element of the marketing environment, answer the question “how does this force affect this industry?” You’ll want to think about what issues (both positive and negative) a marketer operating in this industry had to think about.

Marketing environmental forces include:

1. You’ll want to ask yourself questions like:

Is it a very competitive marketplace?

Are there many competitors?

You might identify some of the major competitors in the marketplace.

2. Cultural/demographic/social. You’ll want to ask yourself questions like:

How is this industry affected by different cultures?

How is this industry affected by different age groups and genders?

How is this industry affected by social forces (focus on social forces addressed in your book in chapter 5)

3. Political/legal/regulatory. You’ll want to ask yourself questions like:

What types of laws and regulation affect this industry?

Are there any political considerations for this industry?

4. You’ll want to ask yourself questions like:

How has technology affected this industry both positively and negatively?

5. Economy

How has the economy affected this industry both positively and negatively?

How does this industry act in a recession versus prosperity?
