Research Paper Proposal and Literature Review Homework Description (5 pages)
Part I:
Before undertaking any substantive writing on the research paper, a research paper proposal and literature review is expected. The research paper proposal should contain:
A. a tentative title of your research paper;
B. a paragraph describing the research question/problem that you would like to research;
C. a set of hypothesis and/or a thesis statement;
D. a basic outline and anticipated word count for each section of your paper.
Following the proposal, you should conduct a small-scale literature review on the topic outlined in your research paper proposal that contains at least five academic sources on your topic, and descriptive review on these sources and how they connect with your project.
Part II:
Guide to Complete the Literature Review
A literature review is a descriptive summary of research on a topic that has previously been studied. The purpose of a literature review is to inform readers of the significant knowledge and ideas that have been established on a topic. Its purpose is to compare, contrast and/or connect findings that were identified when reviewing researchers' work. This literature reviews is intended to ground your research proposal with what is known about your chosen subject and in order to establish a foundation for your research. The purpose of this homework is to facilitate your abilities to research your identified topic so you can learn to
A. Identify and formulate an inquiry question that defines what you'd like to learn,
B. apply your knowledge on reading research that you've learned in class,
C. analyze information found in journal articles/scholarship and
D. Synthesize new knowledge into a written small-scale literature review.
Steps to complete your small-scale literature review:
A. Review your research proposal.
B. (Re)Formulate your inquiry that specifically describes what would like to know about your topic/research.
C. Go to the library to search for and locate journals/scholarship that include your topic's information.
D. Find articles, read the abstracts and skim the articles to determine if they correspond well to your topic AND inquiry question.
E. Select at least 5 journal articles that are most relevant for your project.
F. Read these articles and begin to sort and classify them according to their findings.
G. Organize your articles by sorting and classifying their findings in a meaningful way, always considering your original topic and inquiry question.
H. First outline and then write your review.
This part of the homework should be a minimum three to four pages.
Topic: How does the United Kingdom leaving the EU (European Union) affect the EU and its relationship? And does the UK leaving the EU open the door for other member states to leave the EU?
