Topic: Professional boundaries in mental health care

Please read the article in the Week 3 Readings.

In the workforce, you will experience various types of patient-provider conflicts, small and large, that must be managed judiciously. Indeed, maintaining professional boundaries can be challenging in mental health services, especially after long-established rapports and knowledge of private lives of individuals. Look in the literature as it relates to professional boundaries. How are practice and clinical decisions affected? You are more than welcome to add to the topic as long as it contributes to the subject beyond what is commonly known. I am leaving this open for discussion.

Please go beyond the common warning of "don't violate boundaries." For example, how does a provider establish and terminate a relationship if necessary? Consider how business ethics principles and professional accountability influence decision-making and boundary management in clinical settings.

All references correctly must be cited in APA style. Please observe conventions of APA style as outlined in chapters two and three of the APA manual.

You must search and cite two original peer-reviewed articles from the literature as your original discussion post (about 250 words). You will then offer two brief (100 words) responses to your peers with at least one original peer-reviewed article. Reflection on professional conduct and leadership and management responsibilities may further strengthen your discussion.
