Leadership & Management

When we talk about leadership it talks about the higher position in the organization who can handle the teams. Manager never leads the team and him only sits in her place and give them with orders by his position to provide their teams with responsibilities. He has given a position of manager who has to manage the work and he uses his position, he uses his designation, he uses the authority to complete his job by dividing the work. But a leader talks about the power through which he influences his team and he manages the team properly by diving their work by making its team understand about their work and about their job so as to complete within deadline. A leader needs to manage the work force if there is any problem or any concern as well as any issue with any of the member in his team, a leader needs to justify it very properly so he can manage the work and goals of the organization and can complete the organization.

A leader manage the team as well by knowing their members of the team, by handling the work given to the team, by defining their way of thinking for the completion of the work, by making a good and strong relationship with the team members, by managing the team with all the necessary instructions provided to them, by proper co-ordination and two way communication with the team.

There are two types of leadership in an organization: effective versus ineffective leadership. An effective leadership is that type of leadership which helps in winning the hearts of the team members. It helps the organization to achieve its goals and objectives. Effective leaders possess right personality and an effective leader learns from other mistakes. An effective leadership is known to be successful comparison of ineffective leadership because ineffective leadership is like a death point to an organization with all the losses and ineffectiveness.

I will discuss about a leader because he is famous for theory X, autocratic decision-style methods. A leader who is associated with a team has power to influence his team members and a leader influence and thus motivates his team towards their goal. A good leader has total control over the problems as well as the decision. The autocratic decision style represents the quick decision making, total control, submission of work within deadline etc, accuracy in work. It depends on the leader’s personality and his way of style. There is no much time provided for decision making. Theory X is defined for human motivation and there exists theory Y also in an organizational development, human resource management etc. In theory X management analyses that employees are lazy at work and they avoid their duties and responsibilities at work. So management cares of special incentive programs for their performance and work management. The management feels that employees don’t want to work in theory X and they believe on restriction, strict controls over employees, they create highly restricted atmosphere.

There is no knowledge to people who are new to the group and the leaders are given high power to decide the decision. In the autocratic decision style leaders are given more power to take a decision and there is no involvement of executives etc. They assign work without having proper consultation or co-ordination with their employees and they assign without involving them in that decision because in theory X executives are lazy, they don’t want to complete the task provided to them so the leaders need to be strong in controlling power and fast in decision making. In theory X there is no trust between members or an organization so they take the immediate action. When a leader makes a decision alone and in theory X, there is a strict control over employees and they are fully observed with work and don’t get time for decision making. An experience of an executive are that bad that they don’t get time for re-creation, they don’t get time for communication, decision-making, they don’t get time for understanding their work and thus they don’t get proper growth and proper development from an organization.

The environment is so bad that they sometimes feel exhausted, disturbed, frustrated and sometimes they feel to leave an organization due to this bad experience. Here employee becomes dependent on his managers and leaders but they used to motivate by providing them rewards and recognitions for their work and for respecting their work. This leadership and decision style can be used for theory X where employees are uneducated, inexperienced and I endorse fear for this type of leadership. But on the other hand if they take it in a positive sense they will grow in future and they will improve their quality.

Another example is of an organization’s point of view an employee in a BPO sector was on strict controls with his manager and leader but he used to get motivation through the workforce, responsibilities, rewards and recognition with their senior managers which makes him always motivated in a workplace.

For example: In the marketing field in an initial stage, people enter with the initial position of sales executive where he or she has to flow lots of policies and regulations and strictness of their supervisor or a leader but this enhances their skills and leadership quality, thought process and marketing strategy that’s why people become good leader and marketing manager after a certain period of time like Steve Jobs. We have another example of an entrepreneur like Mr. Azim Premji.

They are given all types of awards, recognitions etc which requires for people which are associated with Maslow’s Hierarchy needs of human that are self-esteem, actualization, shelter, food, home, reputation, safety, job security etc.
