Problem

Historiography: Grad

A historiography paper is not a comparative book review. In a historiography, you very briefly analyze your books or articles by themselves, but the primary purpose is to trace the development of an idea or a historical topic. A historiography is a "history of the history", or a history of how historians have written on a particular topic over time.

Your historiography essay will be four to five pages long, and will compare two books and two articles (at least; you may include more, but you don't need to) on a 19th century medicine topic. Our library and library databases are the best place to find them. Be sure they are scholarly and peer-reviewed! Additionally, be sure the works' publication dates cover at least several decades of time, and be sure the most recent one is ten years old or newer. These books and articles will be on a subject of your choosing, so be sure to pick something that interests you! Also, be sure your topic is narrow enough. Do not, for example, choose "medicine in America". Choose something like "Race in medicine in 19th century America" instead. However, don't choose a topic so specific that there's only one work about it, since that would make the assignment impossible! Get the instant assignment help.

Once you have your sources, you will then compare how the articles deal with the subject. In your historiography, you will briefly describe the two books and two articles, but spend the majority of your four to five pages comparing them. How do they come at the same topic from different perspectives? What are the differences in their methodologies? What do they agree on? Do they disagree about anything? If so, does one make a stronger point? When were the three articles written? How might that have influenced the way they were written? Can you see a trend between them (perhaps something becoming more or less emphasized, or a particular interpretation falling out of favor?)
