In recent weeks the years-old feud between rappers Drake and Kendrick Lamar have come to a public and prevalent climax. While on it's face, this feud may seem to be a series of personal attacks between guys that don't like one another, there are a series of sociological themes and implications embedded in the battle including, rap/hip-hop as an American subculture, who belongs racially/culturally in a subculture, the politics of who profits from the adoption of identities, etc. You can familiarize yourself with this ideas using the following articles:

Using this feud as a lens into what we have been reading/discussing in class, write a reflection on your thoughts, addressing the following:
1) Do factors such as upbringing, personal experiences, and cultural background influence an artist's authenticity in rap music?
2) How do issues of race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, and socioeconomic status intersect with notions of belonging in a subculture?
3) Who tends to profit financially or culturally from the popularity of a subculture? Are these profits distributed equitably among members of the subculture?
