Overview

As you are learning in ENG 190, the research process is an important part of writing a persuasive essay. In this homework, you will work on creating a collection of sources. This is the first part of the project that you will submit in Module Seven. A crucial part of the research process is identifying credible and relevant sources that support your topic and argument. Your sources should support your topic and argument, identify counterarguments, and represent diverse perspectives.

Directions

In this homework, you will compile your research by providing three sources that support your topic. You will also provide your revised research question. You may refer to the Module Three Project Draft exemplars located in the Supporting Materials section for an example of how to complete this homework. Please note that there are two versions of this exemplar: one is specific to MLA format, and one is specific to APA format.

Specifically, you must address the following:

I. State the purpose of your research.

i. Consider the purpose of your research in relation to your topic.

II. State your research question.

IV. Describe how diverse perspectives from sources support your position. Consider the following:

i. Are there multiple voices?

V. List relevant sources to support your persuasive essay.

i. Include at least one source from the Project Resources Document and at least two sources that you find through your own research using the Shapiro Library.

ii. Include an APA or MLA citation for each source. Remember, you will need to use the format you chose in Module One for the duration of the course, including all homeworks and the project.

VI. Describe how each source supports your topic.

i. Briefly summarize each source.

ii. State why the source is credible.

iii. State how the source is relevant to your research question.
