Assignment:

As I discussed in my videos, sixteenth and seventeenth-century European explorers, settlers, and clergy wrote detailed accounts of indigenous women's lives, including the type of work they performed, their sex and marriage customs, and their relationships to their societies. European (and later English) men often positioned indigenous women as the "savage" opposite of Euro-English women because Eurocentrism and heliocentrism defined their world views.

That said, how different were indigenous and Euro-English women's lived experiences from each other? Did they have any common experiences? If so, what were they and why might there be commonality between two very different groups of women?

please compare and contrast the various lived experiences of indigenous women and colonial English women in the 17th century in at least two (2) of the following areas:

  • work
  • marriage/sex
  • social power and/or influence
  • political power and/or influence

Be sure to include examples from the textbook and/or my lectures to support your analysis. Your response should be in complete sentences and be reasonably free of spelling, punctuation, and grammatical errors.
