Assignment:
1) How do interpersonal interactions shape your self-concept and self-esteem? Discuss an experience where communication with someone either boosted or diminished your self-esteem. How did this interaction influence your subsequent behavior or communication style?
2) Think about a recent interaction with someone new (maybe a new co-worker, a friend of a friend, a new classmate in one of your in-person classes this semester, or maybe in an online environment). Which of the three uncertainty reduction strategies (passive, active, or interactive) you used? In your reply define/describe the strategy you employed and discuss how effective it was. If it was not very effective discuss what new method you employed to reduce the uncertainty.
Remember to draw from your chapter reading (with page* citation) in your posts.
While the printed textbook has page numbers those do NOT appear in the online version of the book. As such, if you are drawing from the online version of the textbook I would like you to cite the subsection within the chapter instead of a page number. For example, as you read chapter one you'll see "1.1 Why Study Communication?" and later "1.2 Basic Principles of Human Communication". Please use those as your citation spot.
So within a post, you might state: The textbook authors discuss that Communication has both a denotative and connotative meaning. Denotative definitions are like "dictionary definitions", whereas connotative definitions are more unique to the person and involve "the emotions or associations a person makes when exposed to a symbol. (Wrench, unit 1.2 Basic Principles of Human Communication).
