Fall 2022
The "Fog of War" Evaluation Paper
This assignment requires you to watch the documentary The Fog of War, and match each of the following seven lessons with the correct international relations theory from the three major ones studied (Realism, Liberalism, or Constructivism,) and support your matching by employing terms and concepts from the relevant materials studied. You also need to make an argument regarding the usefulness of the lessons and international relations theories in crafting U.S. foreign policy. Here are the lessons:
Lesson 1: Empathize with your enemy
Lesson 2: Rationality will not save us
Lesson 3: Proportionality should be a guideline in war
Lesson 4: Belief and seeing are often both wrong
Lesson 5: Be prepared to re-examine your reasoning
Lesson 6: In order to do good, you may have to engage in evil
Lesson 7: You can't change human nature
Make a clear argument, correctly employ international relations theories to explain the real-life situations presented in the documentary, and support your arguments.
McNamara's definition (not the summary) of the lesson, then provide the matching with the appropriate international relation theory from the three major ones studied, and finally provide evidence from the relevant material studied to support the matching. How could these findings help guide U.S. foreign policy-making?
Someone else answered this on here but I don't think they answered them correctly.
