Maths and Numeracy
Learning aims
The approach enables foundation learning of counting abilities.
Processing the products through sorting and matching activities develops better fine motor abilities.
Children can identify various colors found nearby.
The learning process includes acquiring numerical relationship associations between symbols and values.
Children can both recite and identify the numerical and categorical value of object groups.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
COUNTING- The activities enable children to discover new digits every day
NUMBER MATCHING-Children match numbers to their corresponding values during number matching tasks whereby the digits 3 corresponds to three things. The blocks will be set in a square shape to enable children to link number cards with the blocks according to quantity.
COLOR SORTING - The children can create color-based categories as part of this activity.
Children can match the blue colored shape block with the other blue block of any shape (bbkids, 2023)
Children's interests/prior Knowledge
Young children develop an interest in many colorful items thus they advance their knowledge of different colors because they naturally want to explore bright colors.
Children find shapes and sizes of building blocks most captivating during the sorting and matching activities. Clues in block shape and dimensions lure children toward placing correct forms on top of each other.
Building blocks of assorted color s and sizes.
A large mat or a blanket to sit on.
Number locks or cards to familiarize with basic counting.
Description of Learning Experience/teaching process
Introduction (5-10 minutes)
The instructor should lead children to mats before presenting blocks and number cards to show them while asking questions about shapes, colors and numbers.
Activity (15-20 minutes)
Color sorting
The children in small group should interact with peers to count and sort blocks based on colors.
During large group sessions with students the teachers should form pairs consisting of two children to allow them to work together for identification and matching of colored mats.
Counting
The teachers support small group children with number counting while they match the numbers to their cards.
With numerous children in the group teachers can break them into smaller groups to complete the counting of mats.
Closure (5 minutes)
The review process enables teachers to both praise the work produced by children and celebrate their accomplishments (Weebly, 2012).
Pedagogical Practices (Teaching Strategies)
Teacher's role
The staff at the center provides both motivational support and educational assistance to children during assignments by interacting with students to enhance their learning experience.
Open-ended Questions
Through these questions teachers can assess the children's knowledge acquisition. The following lists includes several assessment inquiries.
How many blocks are there?
Do you notice the most appropriate block fit for this shape?
Have you ever located one block in exactly the same color among the different blocks you see?
How many sqaure shape boxes are there ? (WA, 2022a)

List relevant outcome/s and provide explanation
Outcome 1- enables children to create identity by participating in team activities which builds their self-confidence.
Outcome 2- shows how children establish relationships while participating in their environment through understanding how their surroundings operate.
Outcome 3 -The activities enable children to advance their cognitive abilities together with their fine motor skills thus supporting their sense of wellbeing.
Outcome 4 - children are confident and involved learners - the children can engage and explore active learning environment (EYLF)
Rationale
Explain how the lesson plans reflect play-based learning with intentionality
This activity links sensory learning with numeracy instruction following children's natural curiosity and the developmental stage of toddlers through the use of number cards combined with coloured blocks for counting activities as described in (ACECQA).
