Question
You learned that there are many reasons change initiatives fail. Let's discuss how we might apply these ideas and/or how we have seen them occur. If you have not had workplace or organizational change experience, you can use a case study to discuss how other companies might have experienced or addressed such issues. Remember, there is a lot that can be learned from what others have done. In your response, discuss the following:
- Have you experienced a change that went well? What factors do you think contributed to that success?
- Have you experienced a change that went horribly wrong? Again, what factors do you think contributed to that failure?
- What particular "mistakes" outlined by Kottter (in your reading) have you seen in your own work environment, or which stood out to you the most?
- As you think about your own change initiative, what specific things will you do to avoid these mistakes?
Take what you have learned this week from me and your classmates and incorporate it into your change initiative plan. Remember, all models will expect you to have a plan to overcome barriers to change and/or other resistance.
