Question - You are a kind soul and you have formed a close relationship with your elderly neighbour John in the next apartment.
John is suffering from a number of health conditions but, despite his physical ailments, his mind is sharp, and you enjoy the opportunity to care for him a little bit by doing some of his shopping and cooking him the occasional meal.
A few months ago, John found out that he was dying of cancer. The night he received his diagnosis you were at his apartment, and he said the following:
"You have been so kind to me over the last 12 months and I want to thank you. When I'm gone, I want you to have all the money that is in my term deposit, my NAB shares, and this house."
John then took you into his office, opened his safe and handed you the following:
1. A share certificate for 10,000 NAB shares in his name
2. An account statement which showed he had a term deposit at CBA with $540,000 in it.
3. The certificate of title to his house.
Has John made an effective gift of any or all of this property? Give reasons referring to relevant case law.
