Greek culture is one of the foundations of Western Culture. Explain how and in what ways Greek culture came to influence the Mediterranean basin, western Asia, and Europe . In your essay consider the development of Greek culture from the Archaic period through the Roman Empire, the means by which this culture was transmitted, and the various challenges faced by the Greek city-states, such as the military threat of the Persian Empire during the sixth and fifth centuries B.C.E. In addition, explain why the Persian Empire, the rival of the Greek city-states in the eastern Mediterranean and western Asia, did not leave as prominent a legacy for Western or Eastern culture.
