Choose a poet either from the Poetry Out Loud website or from Google's list of famous poets to research.

Part I: Biographical information

-Give a brief history of the poet's life.

-Focus on major events that may have influenced their writing.

-Mention any notable achievements surrounding their writing

Part II: Poetry analysis

-Choosetwo poems to read and analyze. For each poem, address the following components:

-What theme or message is the author trying to convey and how do you know?

-What literary devices are being used and how do they impact the poem?

-What is the tone of the writing and how is it achieved?

-Give a personal reaction to the poem. Are there ideas that you agree or disagree with? Does something resonate with your life or an experience you've had?

*Remember to cite examples from each poem to support your analysis*

Part III: Inspired writing

-Write a poem that is inspired by your poet's writing. Maybe it mimics their style. Maybe it addresses a similar theme. Maybe it's inspired by the same idea.

-At least 150 words

Part IV: Presentation

-Share some of your research, including brief biographical info about your author

-Share one of their poems and your analysis (2 bonus points for memorizing)

-Share your own inspired poem (2 bonus points for memorizing)

-Include a visual aid to your presentation. This could be a digital poster or a brief slideshow or anything that helps your present your information to the class.

Note: The overall product for this could look many different ways. It could be a straight forward essay or some kind of visual presentation. As long as you address all of the components, the form can be of your choosing. Feel free to get creative.
