Assessment 1: Laboratory Practicum
Assessment 1 Detail
Practical exercises assess students' ability to apply theoretical learning to practical, real- world situations on a weekly basis. The practical exercises will improve student's ability to practice cloud computing using different cloud plaMorms specified in the weekly workshop activities.
Students will be required to complete the practical exercises during the workshop and therefore, aCendance is required as part of this assessment. Students will not be assessed on work that not produced in workshop so that aCendance is required as part of this assessment.
Students are required to submit the work that they have completed during the workshop session only. The details of the lab work and requirements are provided on the online learning system.
Assessment 2: Case study
Students will critically analyse the fundamental principles and paradigms of cloud computing architectures and review the technological and ethical issues of cloud solutions. Students will also appraise recent technology innovations that enable effective cloud computing.
Case study
Ozcare was established in 1976 with the aim to offer homely, aged care and disability facilities to all Australians.
With 46 services in 25 locations and 600 staff, OzCare started its journey to help seniors and people with disability, and 25 years on, OzCare currently deliver services to more than 15,000 clients, with the support of over 3,800 staff and 250 volunteers.
OzCare staff rely on operational departments to deliver patient care. When issues occur, such as nurses looking for missing kits, broken IT, estate and facilities problems, faulty equipment or PPE, and stock shortages, it's difficult to resolve maCers as there are too many non-digital reporting pathways. As a result, studies have shown that clinicians only spend one-third of their time with patients, the rest are spent navigating hundreds of disconnected non-digital pathways to report operational issues.
To resolve their operational issues, OzCare Management envisions a ‘one-stop' App aggregating all hospital teams, equipment manufacturers and facilities management companies allowing staff report any operational issue instantly, efficiently, and effectively without delay.
Specifically, they want a user-friendly App that allows staff to quickly share any operational issue, from broken computer to low stock and faulty equipment. Whatever the issue is, the system will automatically direct the problem to the correct reporting pathway that can resolve the issue. For example, a faulty computer will go to IT Helpdesk and a low supply of PPE masks will go to purchasing. There is no longer needed to switch between helpdesks, phone calls, emails, or paper lists. Everything will be on the App. The App will also make it easy to aCach photos of broken equipment, including a chat feature where users, suppliers and repair personnel can communicate in real time, ensuring that the responsible person have all the necessary information to resolve the problem. Whenever a problem is solved, the users are notified through push and email notifications. History of all transactions can also be accessed, via the app in an intuitive dashboard, or exported via csv file.
You were assigned to lead this project. Initially, you were looking at adopting Azure, Python and Kubernetes - a mix of technologies that has the potential to deliver unlimited development possibilities, such as fast-paced development, ability to scale if needed, and automates most deployment processes. You realised that one of your most demanding issues will be adoption, such as integrating the app with multiple suppliers will be a major hurdle. This required direct cooperation between the development team and specific external suppliers outside the organisation. You are 100% sure that the issue of trust, privacy and security will come about, and you want to be ready once it comes.
Hence, you plan to make the web and mobile app fast, user-friendly, and lightweight, and focus heavily on making the back-end secure, since it will handle the core of the business logic and data storage.

Assessment 3: Cloud Design and Deployment
Assessment 3 Detail
In this assessment task, you are to create and configure a simple cloud service using AWS Academy according to specified business requirements. Specifically, you will launch, resize, manage, and monitor an Amazon EC2 instance (see Module 6 - Compute, Lab 3 - Introduc+on to EC2). You will provide evidence that you have completed the laboratory tasks by sending a screenshot of the timestamps, selected screenshots showing aspects of the laboratory tasks, and answers to the questions provided in each laboratory tasks. This is to be formaCed as a report (with an Introduction, Body and Conclusion plus References).
The Introduc+on part should include a brief discussion about Amazon's EC2, what it is, its features, services and pricing information.
The Body part should include your answers to the questions provided in Tasks 1-9, including screenshots of relevant tasks completed (each screenshot should be labelled with appropriate information).
The Conclusion part should include Lessons Learned (during the implementation of the Amazon EC2 instance, including any technical and/or group issues you have encountered).
