Pick a fictional character from a favorite book or from a favorite movie. Choose a fictional character or person that you believe has a psychological disorder. Describe the character and his or her problems, using this discussion as a foundation for diagnosing the individual and planning a treatment program. Make your diagnosis using the DSM-IV-TR multiaxial system.
Carefully take the reader through the steps you followed to decide on a diagnosis (using all five axes) and a type of treatment (e.g., therapy, possible medication, referrals to other professionals) that you believe would be ideal for treating the character's diagnosis/symptoms. Describe any other recommendations you have, including assessments you would want completed to help accurately diagnose your character. Make sure you have plenty of information to support your diagnosis (i.e., clarify why the character meets the criteria according to the DSM-IV). Do not "list" each criteria-in other words discuss in paragraph form-your rationale for the diagnosis. Support the diagnosis that you assigned your character with evidence from the book or film.
If you are unable to provide a diagnosis along a given axis --for example, no axis II diagnosis; discuss your rationale and state it clearly.
Make sure you support your diagnosis and treatment decisions with outside (scholarly, credible internet sources and peer-reviewed journal articles) resources. Discuss how and why your proposed treatments would be effective for your character, and in what ways.
