As a result of the transition from a society that was mostly focused on agriculture to one that was focused on industrial production, families were forced to readjust to a new division of labor inside their own houses. When the economy moved, it became increasingly important for women to adjust to their newly acquired roles and responsibilities. This was due to the fact that men were abandoning their previous positions in favor of ones that paid more. This shift in the family dynamic had a major impact, both on the economic well-being of families and the quality of life of families. Yet, the rise in urbanization has also led to an increase in overcrowding as well as poor living circumstances, which has a negative impact on the health and well-being of families. Yet, it marked the beginning of a transition in the way the family was structured.
