A. (Prob.; Non-Prob.) _______________________ The researcher is doing a study of voter preference for the next election. He finds that the county is 30% Republican, 30% Democratic and 40% Independent. B. (Prob,; Non-Prob.) _______________________ The researcher is trying to generate a theory about the relationship between political party affiliation and attitude toward property tax in a particular county. He interviews several members of the various political parties including some who are not affiliated with any part. He finds that being conservative or liberal in orientation seems more important than party affiliation. In his next sample he makes certain that conservatives, moderates and liberals are well represented.

C. (Prob.,; Non-Prob.)________________________ The researcher is doing a study to estimate the level of job satisfaction of the population in a particular county. He gets several friends to help and they distribute questionnaires to more than 1000 people at shopping centers throughout the county.

D. (Prob. Non-Prob)_________________________To estimate the attitude of teen-agers with regard to tobacco use, a researcher obtains a map of the county and numbers each grid square. He then randomly selects 30% of the grid squares by number. He distributes questionnaires to every teen-ager in each grid square selected.

E. (Prob.; Non-Prob.)_______________________ A researcher is doing a study of why people own horses. He selects his sample by talking with feed store owners to obtain names of horse owners in the community. He then selects 40 of them to interview.

F. (Prob.; Non-Prob.)_________________________ A researcher wishes to estimate the level of knowledge of high school seniors in his country with regard to local political issues. After obtaining permission from the director of schools, he asks each high school principal for the number of seniors in his school. He then asks principals to use an alphabetical list of seniors and gives each of them an entry number for the list. For example, the number might be the 33rd student from the top of the list. That student and every 5th one thereafter are to receive the survey form. Those forms from each school will constitute the sample.
