Computing the mean, standard deviation values for the given data.

1. Choose the most appropriate and precise type of statistical method you would use for the following situation: You want to find the average exit exam score for the 90 students in your classes.
a) Randomly select 10 students, compute , generate a confidence interval.
b) Generate a histogram for all scores and estimate the middle of the graph.
c) Organize the data with a stem-leaf plot and estimate the middle of the graph.
d) Calculate µX (entire population is available) using "1 var stats" on the calculator for all scores.

2. Explain how statistics is being misused in this situation: A parent distributes a survey at a parent-teacher organization meeting (20 parents are present) in regards to a new school policy allowing seniors to leave campus during lunch. 70% of parents who mailed in their survey responded that they opposed the new policy. The parent uses this response to claim that the majority of parents oppose seniors leaving campus at lunch.
a) 30 is less than the 32 necessary for the Central Limit Theorem
b) Voluntary Response; parents opposed to the policy may be more emotional about the issue therefore more likely to respond.
c) There may have been biased questions on the survey.
d) The hypotheses were not clearly established.
