Question: Trypanosomses are very old and widespread protozoa that humans have encountered for many years. Upon infection with T. brucei brucei, the organism is cleared. However, if infected with T. brucei gambiense, humans can develop disease. What causes this difference and what is the mechanism for the clearance?
