PT 1. 

Make up a data set by yourself and use SPSS to find the mean, median, mode, standard deviation, variance, and range. Next make a histogram.

Data Set:

Make up a data set that contains 50 numbers representing the hypothetical answers the 50 students gave when asked to provide an estimate of the number of hours each they spend studying per week.

SPSS Analysis:

Find the mean, median, mode, standard deviation, variance, and range. Then, make  a histogram of the results.

PT 2. 

Summarize in depth the SPSS analyses. From the perspective of being a researcher yourself including an explanation of what the study was about as if you are the researcher conducting the study in the hypothetical scenario and include: 

• Explanation of what the numbers in the data set represent
• Report of the mean, median, mode, standard deviation, variance, range, and number of scores. You do not need to create your own table for the paper itself (although, you do need to have SPSS output for the descriptive statistics). You can just write out a few sentences to report the results.
• Description of any notable characteristics of the data that you can see by looking at the histogram. In particular, you should describe the shape of the distribution including any peaks (modes), symmetry, skewness, etc.

Hypothetical Scenario:

Pretend you are researcher interested in studying how many hours per week students spend studying. You decide that the first step in your research is to assess how many hours per week the students at your university spend studying. To do this, you decide to simply ask a random sample of 50 students to provide an estimate of how many hours per week they spend studying.
