If the shoes in Problem 18.26 extend 60° on each side of the centerline,

(a) Determine the brake torque using long-shoe equations.

(b) Determine the shoe width required for an allowable pressure equal to the maximum value listed for woven friction material on cast iron in Table 18.1.

The shoes of the drum brake shown in Figure P18.26 can be assumed to be short. A 150-lb force is applied as shown. Use the minimum value of f (dry) from Table 18.1.
