This one is lengthly. The sample is hydrated copper II sulfate. My lab teacher never explained how we are supposed to answer these questions. I really need help in understanding how this works and how to work these problems.
1. Determine the mass of the hydrate and the mass of the sulfate after removing the water.
2. Calculate the number of moles of water and the number of the moles of the anhydrous sulfate
3. Determine the formula of the hydrated sulfate. The number of water molecules is usually a small whole number expressed as an integer before H20 in the formula.
Here is my information that I obtained.
Mass of Crucible and mass of the sample: 24.42 grams
Crystals are a bright blue
Mass of Crucible and hydrate: 25.09
Crystals are white after being heated.
When HSCN is added, you expect that the equilibrium will shift to the right and the reaction mixture will become darker (more orange).
