Daft and Marcic note that “listening involves the skill of grasping both facts and feelings to interpret a message’s genuine meaning”. That seems simple enough, yet they also remind us that a huge percentage of managers fail within 18 months because of listening-related problems. So, listening evidently isn’t that easy. Why not? Which of the words in the stated definition of listening is most likely to cause problems? Why? What are the managerial implications? What ideas or evidence from the resources supports and illustrates your thinking?
